AFAIK - Calcutta metro runs on Third Rail DC technology. (like B'lore metro)

Classic! I recall having gone on this very route from Gariahat to Esplanade and back (in the 70s). This was one of the articulated trams that was found in abundance in the Ballygunje, Tollygunje, Gariahat areas. Some non-articulated ones could be seen at Howrah and nearby areas.
