Such counterweights are normally used for semaphore signals to put the signal to danger in case the wire breaks but this seems to be a temperature compensator and keeps the wires in proper tension.

This is strangely the only station in the SBC-TK (70km) stretch to have semaphore signals till date.
It appears MACLs have finally made their presence felt.

This Signal is facing a cutting and also a small down gradient. As for the person.. Karan is right !
