Thanks to Apurva, Gowri and Webmaster team for giving us rights to upload pics of this lovely event. I will be uploading images of diesels, pure AC freight locos etc too by evening since I had been to Bhayander,Vaitarna and Kelve road on the same day.

A Brilliant Album, it makes one feel as if he's standing and viewing the 1.5kV DC to 25kV AC conversion in progress, thank you all for sharing.

One of the most important occasions in the rail-history of Mumbai captured and stored as a set of pictures. Nice coverage of the event , I appreciate the efforts...! Thanks for sharing them.

Is this an album to upload pics taken anywhere in India on 5th February 2012? Looking at the pics flooding this album, I have lost interest in uploading any more photos from the conversion day in this album.

Apart from the relevance of photos, many of them are not even straightened, which is a basic requirement.
Posted by Akshay Marathe on 2012 Feb 07 16:52:56 +0000
I agree with Akshay. Arzan and Amit should have uploaded their Kelve - Saphale photos in the Open Line and not in this album, as they are not in the least bit connected with the DC to AC conversion.
Posted by Dr.Jitendra Mulky on 2012 Feb 08 00:12:36 +0000
Arzan/Amit Please lets keep this Album for action around Mumbai area where the conversion was taking place, and is quite nicely captured by Akshay and others. Snaps by Arzan, Amit etc from Kelve Road/Saphale actually bear no resemblance here - and are the regular run-of-the-mill snaps with no relevance what-so-ever to the actually happenings further down south.

Guys, we are yet to upload other pictures. We have taken videos of trains like Sayaji Nagri, ranakpur, etc hauled by diesels. It will take sometime to make photos from these videos since I will be buying a software in a day or two. There is still sometime for an album to remain in Gallery. Will surely upload them shortly. People were waiting for WAP7 to do test run during Power Block. Did they get to see it. We have seen it live and captured it too. There are advantages and disadvantages of being in and around Mumbai. CCG – DRD still comes under Mumbai suburban. We get tourist tickets and are valid till DRD. Mr. Marathe, if you don’t want to upload your pics, it is your own call.
Posted by Arzan Kotval on 2012 Feb 08 05:05:46 +0000
Arzan no need to get so worked up. All we are trying to tell you is to upload only snaps which are relevant to the day's event - SIMPLE. Fine take your time and upload them, but in that case hang on, and don't upload snaps which are not relevent to the occasion. Hope you take this in the right spirit.

Arzan & co, please desist from uploading random images from outside the main suburban areas of Mumbai. I've removed all your images from Kelve Rd. Please write the gallery admins if you have anything else to say.

Well everyone is gung-ho about WAPx entering Mumbai. But sadly we have to bid adieu over a short period of time to the most complex electric loco ever made..the WCAM-1 :-(
Posted by Sachin Buddhisagar on 2012 Feb 10 05:45:29 +0000
Agree with you Sachin. The WCAM-1s and 2s will be sorely missed. I have mixed feelings regarding these AC locos. After being used to seeing these workhorses (WCAMx) for my entire life, it feels extremely weird to suddenly see the WAPs in Mumbai. Somehow they just don't seem to fit in!
Posted by Akshay Marathe on 2012 Feb 11 04:20:21 +0000
Totally agree with Sachin and Akshay. Indeed it feels so weird; until the day of conversion it was WCAMx with all our fav trains. And suddenly, very next day entire landscape has changed. Feels I'm away from home..

Now, even ADI bound trains are getting WAPx. Goodbye WCAM1/2 for all the priceless memories, you will never be forgotten.. :)
Posted by Aamod on 2012 Feb 11 06:25:06 +0000
I don't think we will miss WCAM-1/2P. They're here to stay....
