@Aseem: Why would cows and animals enter the Metro network in the first place? The entire line is elevated or underground apart from this carshed I guess.

I think Kolkata Metro must be the only tracks in India to have a third energized rail.

It takes current from the third rail which is red in colour and running parrallel to the tracks

it is electric powered dude!! Diesel smoke will fill the tunnel and choke the passengers :-) BTW!! the Red looking third track provides the electrical connection.
