A similar tram type (only contact wire) section exists between harduaganj TPP and Aligarh jn. in UP. I suppose the logic behind such traction is that if the no. of trains passing per day are very limited and most of it is low speed traffic (like heavy freight), wear and tear would be much less and hence significant capital saving on OHE installation can be done while still having advantages of electric traction.

First time I am seeing low-speed catenary on a branch line going all the way. Rare capture! So, does this line have elec-hauled freight trains?

Most likely, a ballast compactor, which creates a proper shoulder of the ballast (The ballast spreads away from the rails, over a period of time).
