i think this magnificent piece of machinery could be restored by NRM. hope this subject can be introduced to the director of NRM during NRM 2010.

Swinging the buffer out of the way would allow the crane to come closer to the object being lifted. Even a few critical inches could make a significant difference to the amount of load lifted by the crane.

This is very similar to modern earth moving machinary used. Instead of steam, Hydraulic (high pressure oil) is used. The crank shaft would transfer power to worm which would then rotate wheel gear (middle right)rotating the whole assembly over thrust bearing. Its sad to see however such a fine machine rusting away
