@Anant - Single locos hauling freight on the KK line are as rare as mermaids. The graded section means that additional power is needed for climbing as well as braking. And as Colin says, you should never take a chance, especially while transporting chemicals in bulk.

FYI - Hauling of Specific kind of frieght Loads are always a challenge. Especially when Graded sections are encountered, Not ONLY Indian Railways but Most Railways world Over NEVER take chances in order to Avoid a Runaway downhill.
Even though if it means wasteful Resource utilisation, Safety takes the FIRST Stand.
