Some of the WPs did have names, even though I do not think there was any official policy to give locomotives real names. One that comes to my mind is "Sanjay" and a Saharanpur based WP "Rehmat".

We owe a lot to the non-Indian rail fans of IR, who decades before came to India and selectively and beautifully documented the Indian Railways, when the average indigenous rail fan was an extremely rare individual. Thank you Mr. Tickner for your tremendous contribution.

A great collection of photographs the steam era sir !!! These reminded me of the last days if steam which I noticed as a child near Roorkee at Saharanpur and further down the line at Lucknow. Cheers !!!
