This loco was made in 1959. Manufacturer is one among Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW), Baldwin Locomotive Works or Canadian Locomotive Company. All the WP locos built by these companies' 1959 batches fall in 7216-7515 range.
Out of total 755 WP in the IR fleet, Canadian Locomotive Company built 200 (CLW 259) and MLW built 120. Total 320 Canadian WPs in all. Baldwin made only 116 ( WP is originally their model though). Rest sixty WPs were built by Fabryka Lokomotyw (30) of Austria and Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf of Poland (30) (Santulan Mahanta)

WP 7278 (MLW 77360) was amongst the second batch of WP class locomotives built for East Indian Railway by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1949 after the first batch of prototype WP/P supplied by Baldwin in 1947 were deemed successful.
