a. c. electrics:
This section contains some pictures of a.c. electric locomotives. The first section contains two pictures of the AdTranz WAP/5 at New Delhi, whereas the second half of the page shows ISA in and about a mg YAM/1. The YAM/1s are sadly no more, due to large scale regauging of the lines out of Madras Egmore. One unit is presently at the Chittaranjan Works (though these cute numbers were built by Hitachi), and the IR is said to be considering tapping the export market, with South Africa as a likely candidate for the YAM/1s..

WAP/5:

1. A WAP/5 at New Delhi station in Feb. 1998. The wet but spotlessly clean platform, parcels at the end, and the imported locomotive give this pic a typical foreign feel, what?
2. A side view of another WAP/5. ISA has supplied an identical picture for J.E. Daboo's book 'Diesel and Electric Locomotives on the IR'. The pic in the book has ISA himself standing on the platform in the foreground. Rly24_small.jpg (1745 bytes)

YAM/1:
apg-pbt-15_small.jpg (1654 bytes) 3. The YAM/1 has got to be the IR's cutest, and most comely engines. Here is a unit resting easy at Madras Egmore. In the foreground is a car from a mg e.m.u. All these are unfortunately no more now.
4. The man himself: ISA tries his hand at the controls of a YAM/1 parked in Madras Egmore yard. YAM1_1_small.jpg (2197 bytes)
YAM1_2_small.jpg (1788 bytes) 5. Another view of a YAM/1 in the Egmore yard. If you look closely enough, you can make out ISA peeping out from the cab window.
