Page 3 of KR trip....... |
Soon we begin the steep & treacherous climb on the briganza ghats. A climb of about
800 meters ( vertical measurment ). Lots of tunnels & thick forests on the way. The Briganza ghats is located on the windward side of the western ghats , hence it receives copious rainfall. |
The Briganza ghats is a 'horse shoe' shaped pathway. At the beginning of the climb
you can see your track bang opposite to you! You can also see the scenic doodh sagar falls bridge. |
A sharp curve. Though I went in the summer month , the vegetation is still very thick ! Hence , I found it very difficult to spot the banker locos. |
Atlast , I spotted the bankers ! Note the very sharp curve & also the two locos pushing us up. |
The train is just going over the DS falls bridge. |
A down view of the DS falls from top of the bridge. The things appearing like small shrubs are actually tall trees ! |
Entering into the heart of the hard rocky mountain ! Also note the bridge ! |
Just after entering the tunnel . |
Another long viaduct near the top of the ghats. |
Reaching the top ! After this it is a ' right turn ' |
Another sharp curve , while nearing the end of the climb. Note the guard rails provided on the adjacent track to prevent derailments. |
One more curve , while nearing castle rock railway station. |
The train has reached castle rock stn. Note , 3 WDG2 locos mued together , for hauling an iron ore laden goods train towards vasco. This is the last stn of Briganza ghats. Here the two bankers of the train are removed. The train then continues its journey through very thick forests to londa-belgaum. |
My train reached castle rock just before sunset. After that there was not sufficient
light for photography. But the entire route was really scenic. I reached Pune
Junction next day early morning 4 am. |
