Thanks Mr. Shirish and Ashish for the snap. Great contrast between dull looking vacuum braked coaches and the monster WCM2. These monsters used to frighten me a lot by their looks and HT horns.

Lovely pic !!! WCM 2 looking monster !!!!!

Awesome. dont u think visiblity wud hav been an issue with this? btw, this looks like a wdm jumbo.

Interesting point about visibility being an issue with loco design such as this.

Even I've always wondered how would the loco pilots manage to have a clear view ahead, with such a small inconvenient windshield and with a grill obstructing vision. I bet, it would be a challenge even now for loco pilots esp. while the locos run LHF. How do they confidently run the locos?

I particularly pity the LPs of WDP/G-4 especially when running LHF.

Great. No loco comes even close to WCM in looks. Massive Beast...

I use to call these locos as "Ambassador" in my childhood.
Thanks Dr. Yande and ashish for uploading.
These locos have very sweet memories etched with me.

This is the class of loco which had hauled my Deccan express from Pune to Kalyan way back in 1993(I had uploaded scanned images of that earlier).Nostalgic feeling...This resembles more like WDM1.

Typically Mumbai ambience in the picture with the WCM 2 on lead.

Truly Platinum!
Notice the entire stretch of Wooden sleepers too!
Though i am not familiar with the Mumbai-Pune region, It gives me joy to see the Wooden sleepers, Vacuum braked rake and the massive Loco!

Now now.. look at her. so beautiful and so magnanimous.. is AC really required? bring back these DC beauties
Posted by Vivek Pillay (Oldman) on 2009 Jun 04 19:08:06 +0100
Vivek, I agree with you. I wish they had converted these beauties to pure AC locos just like WCM6 is done.

Sometime back when ER started usage of 3000 volts DC,twelve DC electric locos of EM 2 Class were obtained from English Electric/ Vulcan Foundry. These were re-wired for CR's 1500 volts system, and sent to Mumbai area, where they worked for years ( BBVT-PA/ IGP sections ).I saw one at BBVT in 1998,and I was amazed that it featured push-button pantograph handling. These were of full 3600 hp like EM 1s ( WCM 1s ) and Hitachi built EM 3s ( WCM 3s ).

All EM 2s became WCM 2s.

To restore them for historical reason is one.
But CR could restore WCMX and WCG2s as WASMX and WAS2 (for shunting duties)
I will be happy to see the AC machinary fitted WCG2 (now WAS2) and may be painted tiger faced, hauling rakes around BBVT / BCT area.

Beauty I think Railways Should restore these locos by Retro- fitment And Conversion from DC to AC should be done at war footing basis,so that we can see these locos in new livery and power.

I used to travel in Dadar-Amritsar trains to Bombay for my vactaion, pulled by this locomotive. I still remember I was so fascinated by tthis locomotive, that I used to draw it as well. but when I grew up I couldnt see these engines at all.

I would love to travel to Bombay to my relatives once again in a train pulled by this locomotive.

It makes me so much nostialgic and emotional.

Thanks for posting these pictures!

All these pictures, especially the ones with the Deccan Queen's old off-white and blue livery, bring back so many memories from my childhood when I used to travel from Bombay to Pune for vacation.

There are lots of videos of Indian trains on youtube but I didn't see any WCMs so I started looking. So sorry to see these magnificant old workhorses gone now

They will be missed by many I am sure...

THIS LOCOS SHOULD BE AT WORK BY DOING SHUNTING DUTIES AT
EVERY PLACE AS THE SHUNTING BY DIESELS TOO LEAD TO POLLUTION .
AS THE LOCO RESEMBLE WDM JUMBO , THE LOOK ITSELF IS REALLY
CREATING HUGE CONTROVERSY .
