Oh, Sorry, I misread "ga" as "tha" and jumbled up the second word. Mine is a queer case really. I can read and write Tamil to a good extent, but cannot really speak and understand it.

A more correct pronounciation would be Ilangai Pugai-Iratha Sevai. Ilangai - Lanka (as it is called in tamil) . Pugai - Smoke. Iratha - means Rath (or Chariot). (In Tamilnadu - in written literature trains, are referred as Pugai Vandi - here Vandi is a vehicle...). Sevai = Service....

Eelanthai putgaiyiratha sevai?? I hope I have read properly. Can some body translate. It definitely does not directly translate to Sri Lankan Railways. The first two words in the sinhala script definitely says "Sri Lanka".

SLR Loco 790
This loco hauled the train end to end, and did a great job. We were getting some good speeds (MPS 88 KMPH/55 MPH). I did not have GPS, but can say I enjoyed. 120 km in 2h38m including a long ghat section. Not bad at all...
