RA nomenculture is for inspection carriage(populaly known as saloon) used by higher grade railway officers for inspections . Its origin may be in abbribiation of " Railway Administrator " but I am not very sure of it

As per latest instruction , all carriage used by Principal HOD and above & DRMs are AC
