A 4-wheeler tank wagon. Earlier, these wagons had hook couplers with side buffers, but these have been since modified with CBCs. But this has made them prone to derailing because of the rigid frame and the lack of side buffers to limit lateral motion. This one hauls heavy furnace oil and is classified as TOHC. The new BCNA High Speed (BCNAHS) wagons with a Top speed rated at 100 kmph. The stripes seem to provide the easy visual identification of their special status. The bogies etc. seem to be pretty much the same. Guess everything was just beefed up a bit. Such wagons are being increasingly spotted around NGP area. Most are from ER. Photo by Alok Patel, Jun 2003

BOXN HS (100 kph) wagon from the same rake as the previous pic but with another distinctive style. I do not know why they did not use the red stripes here. The wagon looks as if it has been upgraded and is not a brand new wagon. So maybe this is the livery that will be used for old and upgraded wagons. Photo by Alok Patel, Jul 2003

Another BOXN High Speed wagon at Nagpur. Not the red and white stripes on the wagon to identify it as a high speed BOXN. These are increasing in number steadily in this section and seem to be generally owned by SER and ER. Photo by Alok Patel, Jul 2003

Another view of the strange wagon. This is an old wagon whose roof and side walls have been cut as shown. This is used to transport axles - the axle is placed by a crane into the wagon through the opening, on to a track inside the wagon, and is then rolled to either side. Ernakulam, 2003. By Jimmy Jose.
