Airavat is generic name for all KSTRC Volvos (not only for Mysore - Bangalore ones). IMHO, Airavat must be a Sanskrit word. About naming this particular loco, may be because of the colour, the elephant was white (unique, normally elephants are black),...

BTW what does Airavat means. Mysore-Bangalore KSRTC Volvo buses are also named Airavat. Some locals told me that Airavat is a Kannada word and in actual "Airavata."
