Harsh that is not a lifting hole. Its used to haul locos incase they are unable to move, and the coupler & related mechanism is damaged. I remember having clicked a snap of that portion which mentioned: "To be used in case of accident."

Also, there seems to have been some welding work done on the front of the loco as the 'D' of the WDM2 has been mutilated. There is also a grill on the left windscreen which is not there on the right one. The lifting hole on the right also seems to have ...

Harsh, its a mirage which is giving you that effect probably...Avoid using such harsh language Harsh. Please stick to regulations.

Poor snap!!
The pic is very grainy and please try to reduce the burnt-out sky effect by using a higher aperture setting. Take pics using aperture priority.
