Eventhough only around 30 locos are alive, still, IR may not want to use this number series at present. Also a circular from Rly board was issued to this effect to continue numbering from 40000 onwards

this is quite a revelation! If bogie design, prime mover HP and tractions remain the same, why is IR following 2 road number series for this loco class?
