Even when transported dead, the bumps of the travel could inadvertantly cause the panto to rise, specially if the loco could have some air pressure in the system which could leak into the panto's cylinder. There could be damage to the panto and...

could not understand why the pantos were tied for both the AC & DC locos in the first place - it is not that some LP will forgetfully raise the pantos while bringing them in..any comments ?
